Zoning and Land Use 101

Wondering about zoning and what it means for your neighborhood? Interested in learning about the zoning process? Eager to help shape your community’s future? Join us for a hands-on workshop to help Chicagoans understand and engage with zoning and land use. Organized by Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) - a planning and policy organization working toward a more equitable Chicago region. The session will cover: What zoning and land use actually is — and how it shows up in your communityHands-on practice: design your own dream community and create a zoning mapThe history behind zoningHow to navigate zoning changes and who the key players areHow to show up and engage when land use decisions are being made in your neighborhood This workshop is 2 hours long and is developed for older teenagers and adults. Each participant will receive a print copy of MPC’s ‘In the Zone” zine in English, Spanish, or Chinese. Interested in joining? Great! No RSVP necessary.
